"Vale!" - Be Strong in Your Endeavors of Life

 To Graduation Season!

From Florence Dale's 1909 Brown's Valley Normal School valedictory address: Our life hitherto has been but a preparation for the life we shall lead in the future. It is our most sincere trust that we have secured the very best possible out of that preparation: that our ideals are of such a kind as will help us to become useful law abiding citizens, the kind of citizens this government is looking for: we realize the earnestness and the glory of this life we are about to enter. The future years will but be another course of preparation. We shall make mistakes, as we did in our school work, but back of them will be our good intentions, and our enthusiasm, combined with an earnest spirit.

This will certify that J.S. Walker having been a student in the Cornell University for about one year in optional studies is now honourable dismissed of his own request. W.B. Wilson, Registrar (1872).  I wish I knew this story!
